What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is the use of the hypnotic state (see “What is hypnosis?”) in combination with other psychological strategies acquired from behavioural, cognitive and analytical therapy as well as from neuro linguistic programming (NLP). The main purpose of hypnotherapy is the achievement of your particular goal.
Hypnotherapy is most effective when employed to provoke changes in your behaviour, in the ways you think about yourself and the world around you and in the interpretation of past events which may interfere negatively in your current life. Hypnotherapy is safe and natural and does not produce unwanted secondary effects. If administered with skill and professionalism, its effects can be long lasting and, in many occasions, permanent.

The hypnotic state is used by hypnotherapy because it provides access to the subconscious mind. Hypnotherapy facilitates the incorporation of desired and beneficial suggestions to this part of the mind. No one can be hypnotised against their will and, even in a hypnotic state, given suggestions can be refused if you do not believe them to be appropriate. Your mind’s ultimate job is to guarantee your survival as much as it is possible. It is for this reason that your subconscious mind will not accept suggestions which may be detrimental to your physical or/and psychological well being.

As an Associate member of the BSCH (British Society of Clinical Hypnosis) I abide a code of conduct

which forbids the use of hypnosis for entertainment purposes, such as in the case of stage hypnosis.

Hypnotherapy succeeds with maximum effect in the presence of an objective or goal. The clear and more specific this goal appears to be, more are the chances of therapeutic success. Part of the therapeutic process consists in defining this goal so that it is specific, manageable, achievable, realistic and harmless to your physical and psychological health. The negotiation of a temporal deadline for goal achievement, chosen whilst taking into account the previously mentioned characteristics, is identified as a positive motivator and therefore encouraged at start of tehrapy.

Parallel to hypnotherapeutic treatment, it is required that you follow the instructions of your doctor and any prescribed treatment. If you suffer from any medical physical or psychological condition you will be requested to follow the appropriate  medical advice previous or parallel to hypnotherapy.  At no point will you be encouraged to alter the course of any prescribed medication unless instructed by the qualified and responsible medical team.
